about

The selection of qasidas and muwashahat are taken from the works of great Sufi masters of Al Andalus and the Arab world and include works of Ibn Arabi, Rabia Al Adawiyya, Shushtari, Ibn Nawhi, Harraq, and others. The beauty of the words and melodies touch everyone to the core, elevating the state of both audience and musician.

Chaouen, early 1980´s. Hamid Ajbar, a young singer and violinist, is invited to take part in an important festival in Fez with the renowned orchestra of Fez led by Muhammad Briouel.

This event marks the beginning of an extensive musical career which began as a youth in the Sufi gatherings and dhikr circles of the zawiyyas of Tetouan and Chaouen, where this tradition has been maintained ever since the expulsion of the Muslims from Al Andalus. He graduated from the Conservatory of Rabat, after ten years of study, and won first prize on three occasions in the National Competition for Andalusian Chant, Morocco. He also masters the oriental Arab musical modes. In the year 2000, he moved to Granada, Spain, where he collaborated with several great artists both from flamenco and Arab music.
